Welcome to CAP-SF
The California Appellate Project–San Francisco (CAP–SF) is a non-profit organization that provides legal assistance to counsel who are representing California death row inmates on appeal and in state habeas corpus proceedings. CAP was established in 1982 by the California State Legislature to ensure that all indigent defendants have access to quality legal representation on appeal, regardless of their financial means. To learn more about CAP and our mission, please visit the About and FAQ pages.
If you are seeking assistance with an appeal that is not a death penalty case and is in the Second District of the California Court of Appeal, contact the CAP offices in Los Angeles. For assistance in non-death penalty appeals in other areas of California, contact the relevant appellate project. The California Judicial Council maintains an Appellate Project webpage with contact information for all five appellate projects.
The public portions of our site are available via the links above.
The remainder of our site contains resources to assist counsel in California capital postconviction cases. Access is reserved for such counsel and their legal staff.
Need an account? If you are appointed counsel or other defense-team member in a capital case, please visit the New Accounts page to review the eligibility criteria and submit a request.
